Satellite Data & GIS Analysis for Environmental and Humanitarian Applications
Independent Consultant
Outside of my work on the Impact and Sustainability Team at Planet Labs PBC, I am an independent consultant focusing on satellite data analysis and integrated socioeconomic modeling with an environmental and humanitarian focus. I combine advanced satellite data analysis, GIS, and socioeconomic modeling methods with human centered social science techniques to co-create solutions with communities.
Rigorous analysis of satellite data, GIS analysis and visualization using a variety of tools, and modeling of socioeconomic phenomena for decision making insights.
Complex system analysis techniques combined with culturally competent community engagement to target stakeholder objectives and co-create solutions.
Advocacy to policymakers at the international, federal, state, local, and tribal level informed by experience both inside and outside government institutions.
Contracting with KTLN for the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), I helped develop interactive storymap tutorials to aid community stakeholders' use of the The Climate Vulnerability Index (CVI). The CVI (developed by EDF, Texas A&M, and Darkhorse Analytics) is a mapping tool that allows for policy makers and communities to have granular data on climate vulnerabilities to guide allocations of funding and interventions within community levels.
The interactive storymap tutorials were utilized by EDF in programming with community organizations to help diverse stakeholders to utilize this dashboard and frame their case studies for data collection and presentation.
Tanoaks have high value to the cultural lifeways of the Yurok Tribe. However, undesirable conifers can grow quickly and deprive the these important Tanoaks of light needed for their growth. Working with Yurok Tribe staff, satellite remote sensing was used produce a high-accuracy estimation of Tanoak locations to aid in Yurok Tribe Tanoak management.
Prior to my full time position, I consulted for Planet Labs PBC on a technical and policy evaluation focused on the application of Planet satellite data to climate risk disclosures under proposed Federal SEC climate disclosure rule
I am currently available for consulting opportunities and open to other collaboration ideas.
